Kayapó

O povo kayapó se divide em sete subgrupos atuais: Gorotire, Kuben-Krân-Krên, Kôkraimôrô, Kararaô, Mekrãgnoti, Metyktire e Xikrin, localizados na bacia do rio Xingu, na floresta amazônica entre o Pará e Mato Grosso.

Minha documentação é focada no subgrupo Mebêngôkre Kayapó Mekrãgnoti, que habita a Terra Indígena Menkragnoti, no sudoeste do Pará, demarcada em 1994 e habitada por cerca de 1300 indígenas, segundo o IBGE de 2010.

Nove aldeias compõe esse território: Kubenkokre, Pykany, Jabuí, Mankragnotire, Krimej, Kawatum, Pykatoti, Pyngraitire e Mopkrore. Somadas as aldeias Baú e Rãxopreti (ambas da Terra Indígena Baú, localizada ao lado da T.I. Menkragnoti), compõe o Instituto Kabu — uma das três associações indígenas do povo kayapó.

O trabalho apresentado aqui começou a ser documentado em 2019 para o Instituto Kabu e, consequentemente, com a autorização e consentimento das lideranças das aldeias e das pessoas retratadas.


The Kayapó indigenous people are separated into seven subgroups: Gorotire, Kuben-Kran-Krên, Kôkraimôrô, Kararaô, Mekrãgnoti, Metyktire and Xikrin, all of them located in the Xingu River basin in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest between Pará and Mato Grosso states.

My documentation is focused on the Mebêngôkre Kayapó Mekrãgnoti subgroup, which inhabits the Menkragnoti Indigenous Land in southern Pará, demarcated in 1994 and inhabited by around 1300 indigenous people according to the last research (2010) .

Nine villages compose the territory: Kubenkokre, Pykany, Jabui, Mankragnotire, Krimej, Kawatum, Pykatoti, Pyngraitire e Mopkrore. Added to the Baú and Rãxopreti villages (both from Baú Indigenous Land, located near Menkragnoti IL), they form the Kabu Institute - one of the Kayapó indigenous associations.

The work presented here has been documented for Kabu Institute and, consequently, with the permission and consent of the village leaders and the people portraited in the photographs. Started in 2019.

Bloqueio da BR-163

Lideranças do povo Kayapó Menkragnotire fecharam a BR-163 — principal rota de escoamento da produção do agronegócio brasileiro (na altura de Novo Progresso, no Pará) — para que suas reivindicações fossem ouvidas. E foram, em parte. Agosto 2020.

Leaders of the Kayapó Menkragnotire people closed BR-163 — the main route for the flow of Brazilian agribusiness production (in the region of Novo Progresso, in Pará) — so that their claims could be heard. And they were, in part. August 2020.

O Xingu é um só

Série de fotos com pessoas dos 15 diferentes povos da bacia do rio Xingu sentadas lado ao lado em um banco no centro da aldeia Kubenkokre. Havia povos que não se conheciam, povos com histórico de rivalidade e até ribeirinhos que foram a uma aldeia pela primeira vez. Fotografado durante o 4o encontro Xingu+. Agosto 2019.

Aldeia Kubenkokre

A maior aldeia da Terra Indígena Menkragnoti (com cerca de 650 pessoas), na beira do rio Iriri, altera sua rotina para receber o quarto encontro Xingu+, que promoveu discussões sobre proteção e gestão do território, fortalecendo a articulação entre os xinguanos. Agosto 2019.
